Newly appointed Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj has invited residents to his office to hold discussions on their complaints and issues regarding the civic body, every Thursday.

The MC Commissioner said most of the times, junior officials are not available for residents, who have some issues, problems or complaints. “They make excuses that they are in field, in the court, in some meeting or on some official visit. With an objective to improve the public complaint redress system and transparency in public dealing, we have decided to meet the residents at the meeting hall of the MC at Ranjit Avenue Head Office. All officials and staff of concerned departments would be available in the meeting to respond to the queries and complaints of residents from 11 am onward, every Thursday. The residents, whose issues are not being addressed, should meet us without any hesitation. All MC staff would be available for on spot redress,” said the MC Commissioner.

Talking about the accountability of the heads of various department and in-charges, Kumar said: “Officials can make excuses for one or two months, but after that they have to perform. We will fix the accountability of officials on the spot. We are here for the public and their convenience will be our priority. All online and telephonic platforms will continue to register the routine complaints. We will also strengthen the online complaint redress system but the residents who visit physically would be also accommodated,” he said.

Most of the complaints at the MC office are about the choking of sewer line, contaminated water, garbage lifting, non-functional streetlights and encroachment. Recently transferred Joint Commissioner Hardeep Singh made serious efforts to address all these complaints within set time.
