In a major action in connection with encroachment of government land, the estate wing of the municipal corporation took back possession of agriculture land over 6 kanals at Guru Ki wadali area under the MC jurisdiction here on Friday.

On the directions of MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh, a team of the land department led by Naib Tehsildar (Amritsar-1) Mukesh Kumar, Estate Officer Dharminderjit Singh took possession of the agricultural land (measuring 6 kanals 15 marlas) at Guru Ki Wadali village near Kot Khalsa. MC officials claimed that the property belongs to the Amritsar Municipal Corporation, but the land was illegally occupied by some miscreants.

MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh stated that there is a lot of property belonging to the civic body in all parts of the city for which a record has been maintained by the Land Department with the help of Patwari. There is a total of 97 kanals of land Guru Ki Wadali village near Kot Khalsa which is illegally occupied by the miscreants and they were cultivating the same for various crops.

Today, a team of Land Department officials led by the Naib Tehsildar and the Estate Officer and police personnel visited the spot and took possession of the of MC Land. The MC Commissioner claimed that the rest of the encroached land will be got vacated in due course of time. Boards regarding the ownership of the MC have been installed on all sides of the land. MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh warned that the civic body will not tolerate this practice and will take possession of its properties, so people should avoid encroachment of government land otherwise action will be taken against them as per rules.
