Amritsar man gets death sentence for rape, murder of 6-yr-old daughter

A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Amritsar on Thursday awarded death sentence to a man convicted of raping and murdering his six-year-old daughter at a village in Baba Bakala here.
The court of additional district and sessions judge imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh under section 302 of IPC and imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs 50,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
On January 5, 2020, an FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother alleging that her husband ‘raped and murdered’ their daughter.
The complainant had stated that she and her husband had separated following a marital dispute and the man used to take their daughter along with him on occasions.
The woman had alleged that on January 4, her husband took her daughter and did not return. The victim was later found hanging from a tree in the nearby forest area.
