Amritsar District Administration officials held a meeting, regarding CityNeeds’ initiative Daan Utsav, with representatives of 90 organisations today. The week-long festival of sharing is celebrated nationwide from October 14 to 18 every year.

The administration, pledging their support to the initiative, said they would engage various schools, colleges, NGOs and social and cultural organisations to contribute to the community-driven programme, aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices through the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR) initiative.

The meeting was convened by Assistant Commissioner Gursimranjeet Kaur, who emphasised the importance of community involvement in the Daan Utsav. Under the festival, these organisations are encouraged to gather used clothes, shoes, toys, books, electronics and other reusable items for distribution among the needy.

Gursimranjeet reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting such initiatives in line with Centre Government’s programme ‘Meri LiFE’, focusing on sustainability, community welfare and responsible waste management.

CityNeeds, a non-profit organisation, will assist the administration in organising the collection and redistribution of materials as part of the Daan Utsav, with a focus on sustainability and community welfare. Different collection centres would be set up across the city, where citizens would be able to drop the collectibles or contribute by giving a missed call on 7877778803 and get the details on WhatsApp. These items will then be distributed to NGOs and underprivileged communities across the region. The administration would also provided logistical support for the collection and distribution process to ensure the drive’s success.
