Amritsar cops crack gold heist case, four held
The police on Sunday arrested four persons for looting 1.710-kg gold jewellery from a courier in the Tahli Wala Bazaar area here.
Besides recovering the gold, the police seized a pistol and a bike used in the crime.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Karanjit Singh (23), Jaskaran Singh (46), Shivamdeep Singh (22) and Bikramjit Singh (25).
Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon said Mukesh Saini, who was residing near Kesar Da Dhaba, informed the police that he was robbed of 1.710 kg gold jewellery on Friday evening.
Saini and his brother run a courier firm, which sends gold jewellery to different states after collecting it from various jewellery stores and goldsmiths in the city.
Saini said the accused were armed with a pistol. The incident occurred when he was going to his office on a scooter after collecting the jewellery.
Police teams from Sultanwind and Kotwali led by ACP Parvesh Chopra reached the spot and began probe.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishaljit Singh said Karanjit Singh and Jaskaran Singh, who used to work as goldsmiths, did the recce of the area while the remaining two suspects executed the robbery. The suspects were arrested within 24 hours of the incident, he said, adding that the accused had been taken on police remand for further investigation.
