Akal Takht Jathedar asks Punjab Govt to shift Dibrugarh detainees to Punjab jail
Amritsar, February 28
Expressing solidarity with the Dibrugarh jail detainees, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has warned that the state government would be held responsible if any unpleasant incident happened to the kin of detainees who have been observing hunger strike for the past one week.
Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh criticised the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government for not taking steps to meet the demand raised by their kin to shift the detainees to Punjab jail.
“It is a pity that no representative of the government or the district administration spared time to heed to their demand. They have been sitting on hunger strike and their health is deteriorating. On the other hand, Amritpal and his aides were also on hunger strike at Dibrugarh jail to protest breach of privacy in the jail premises since February 16. The prejudiced attitude of the government towards Sikhs is not justified, making them feel alienated,” he said.
He said it was the responsibility of the Punjab government to initiate a move to shift the detainees from Dibrugarh. “If any unpleasant incident happens, the onus would be on Punjab government,” he warned.
