The Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered heroin weighing 6.8 kg heroin from the border belt of Tarn Taran district in two separate incidents yesterday evening.

In the first case, consequent upon activation of the technical counter measures, the BSF successfully neutralised a drone intrusion in border Gilpan village. Later, a joint search operation of the BSF troops and the Punjab Police was conducted at the village. At 4.43 pm, the BSF and the police successfully recovered one assembled drone (quadcopter) along with a huge packet of suspected heroin (gross weight 6.230 kg) from an agricultural field in Gilpan village.

At another spot in Dal village, the BSF intelligence wing personnel laid a special ambush when suspicious movement of two bike-borne persons was noticed around 4.30 pm. When the bikers were chased, one of them dropped his mobile phone.

Later, with the help of villagers, the BSF and Punjab Police personnel conducted a joint search operation and recovered a packet containing 581 grams of heroin from a house. The drug was wrapped in a yellow adhesive tape. An improvised loop of the copper wire was also found attached with the packet. No arrest has been made in this connection. Another drug smuggling attempt from across the border was thwarted by the BSF and the Punjab Police.
