22-yr-old cop killed in mishap
Amritsar, August 9
A Punjab Police constable identified as Arjun Kumar lost his life when his SUV collided with a stationary truck in the service lane on the Amritsar-Attari bypass road near the Fatehgarh Churian road here on Thursday evening. Arjun (22) was posted at the OSI branch of the Amritsar (Rural) police. He died on the spot.
The police said as per preliminary probe, his SUV went out of control as one of its tyres busted and the vehicle rammed into a truck parked in the service lane. He was going from Verka to Fatehgarh Churian.
Vinod Sharma, SHO, Sadar police station, said Arjun was returning home from his duty when the accident took place. He was recruited in the Punjab Police on compassionate grounds after death of his mother who also died in a road mishap. The deceased got married around six months ago. The tragic incident left the family shattered.
The SHO said inquest proceedings under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) had been initiated into the matter. The people of the area were critical of trucks stationed in service lanes which often led to road mishaps on the bypass road. Residents alleged that transporters were negligent about parking trucks. — TNS
