2 women end life, husbands booked

Two women died by suicide due to marriage-related conflicts in the district. In the first incident a woman, who was thrown out of her in-law’s house, ended her life. Her husband’s and in-laws alleged bad behaviour with her have been cited as the reason behind her taking the extreme step. Besides, her husband allegedly had illicit relations with other woman. The deceased was identified as Amandeep Kaur (45), a resident of Sarhali. The police said this was second marriage of Amandeep with Balwinder Singh, a resident of Narang Singh Wala village in Ferozepur. After being thrown out of her in-law’s house two months ago, she was living with her brothers in Sarhali village.
Angrej Singh Shergill, brother of the deceased, said his sister was under depression. He said his sister consumed some poisonous substance on Tuesday. She was taken to Sarhali Civil Hospital for treatment. After getting discharge from the hospital, she again fell sick and died, he said. ASI Gursewak Singh said Balwinder Singh, husband of the deceased, had been booked under Section 108 of the BNS on Thursday. He said raids were on to arrest him.
In the second incident a woman identified as Kanwaljit Kaur (26), a resident of Mughal Chack Pannuan village, consumed some poisonous substance on Wednesday at her in-laws house on Wednesday as her husband Lovepreet Singh had illicit relations another woman identified as Rajni Moto, a resident of Mohalla Tonk Kashatri.
Brother of the deceased Satnam Singh Sonu, a resident of Bandala (Jandiala Guru), told the Sadar police that Lovepreet had illicit relations with Moto. In connivance with his brother Mangu and Rajni Moto, he was harassing his sister for dowry, said Sonu. Kanwaljit consumed some poisonous substance and died on Thursday. The Sadar police registered a case under Sections 80 and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on Thursday, said ASI Sukhdev Singh. Lovepreet was absconding and raids were on to nab him, the ASI said.
