1 killed after verbal duel takes ugly turn

Following a verbal altercation, a 35-year-old man was killed in the Chabal township on Saturday night.  The deceased has been identified as Surjit Singh of Gidgri Baghiari village.

The deceased was working at a flour mill owned by Dilbag Singh in Adda Chabal. He indulged in a verbal spat with Hardial Singh of Dode village, who had parked his car in front of the mill. Later, Hardial Singh attacked the deceased with a knife.

He was gravely injured in the attack and was admitted at a private hospital in Chabal, but was referred to another hospital in Amritsar, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Inspector Paramjit Singh, SHO Chabal Police, said a case has been registered under Section 103 (1) of the BNS against Hardial Singh, who is absconding.
