1 held in goldsmith’s murder attempt case

Eight months after a goldsmith was attacked and looted, the city police claimed to have arrested a gangster, identified as Harpreet Singh, alias Ganja, in this connection here on Saturday. Ganja has around 15 criminal cases registered against him.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Gurinderbir Singh Sidhu said the accused was arrested from Maqboolpura area. He was arrested in connection with a case of snatching a pistol from Hira Singh of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar area in November last year.
The victim was a goldsmith and used to go to Uttar Pradesh regarding the trade. He said Iqbal Singh, another goldsmith, used to go there for business. The ACP said as per the complainant, Iqbal used to stop him from doing trade in UP and therefore he allegedly hired some miscreants for threatening him.
The miscreants, including Ganja, attacked him. In order to save himself, he had fired in which a robber, identified as Kuljit Singh, was injured. He said the accused had then snatched his weapon and fled from the spot. He was also injured in the assault.
The police had registered an attempt-to-murder and snatching case in this connection.
