Amritsar property dealer gets extortion call from jailed gangster

Police have registered a case after a property dealer alleged that he received an extortion call from a jailed gangster demanding Rs 50 lakh.

According to officials, complainant Andish Sharma alias Bobby, a resident of Sehaj Enclave here, alleged that jailed gangster Dharminder Singh Goli demanded extortion from him.

Confirming the incident, Majitha road SHO Baldev Singh said the accused would be brought on production warrant from Muktsar jail for further investigation.

The complainant alleged that the accused repeatedly called him on his WhatsApp number and threatened him and his family of dire consequences while demanding Rs 50 lakh as extortion.

The Muktsar jail authorities have also been informed about the suspect possessing a mobile phone for further necessary action, the SHO said.

A case under Section 308 (2), 308 (4), 351 (3) of Bhartiya Nayay Sanhita has been registered in this connection.

Goli is a notorious gangster having over a dozen cases of murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, snatching and Arms Act registered against him across Punjab, including Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur and Amritsar.

He was also one of the accused who had shot down a Hindu leader Vipin Sharma on Batala road in 2017.
