Amritsar, July 30
Government Medical College director principal Dr Rajiv Devgan and its associated hospital Guru Nanak Dev hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Kanwardeep Singh has tendered resignations from their respective posts citing excessive workload.
The surprise move has come after the alleged rude behaviour of Punjab Health Minister with the Baba Farid University of Health and Medical Sciences vice chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur. The sources at the GMC ascertained that the resignations are a part of the resentment brewing among the medical fraternity.
Both the officials have, however, expressed wished to work for their parent departments.
Dr Devgan is a cancer consultant and in his resignation has expressed that as the new state cancer institute has started operations, his services are more needed there.
Dr Kanwardeep Singh’s resignation letter reads, “…..due to personal reasons and enhanced work load of my parent department, it is not possible for me to continue with this additional charge (medical superintendent).
