Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney and SSP (Rural) Charanjit Singh today visited villages in the district to extinguish farm fires while calling the fire brigade to the scene.

The DC issued strict instructions to the nodal officers and SHOs or beat officers against showing negligence in duty. She said they would face legal action in court in accordance with the recent guidelines of the Air Quality Management Commission (AQMC).

The DC and SSP visited Mehlanwala, Adliwal, Jagdev Kalan, Mallu Nangal, Sahisra, Rajasansi and Harsha China villages to extinguish farm fires.

“No laxity would be tolerated and all responsible individuals, including officials, would be held accountable for any violation of the directives issued by the Supreme Court, the National Green Tribunal and the AQMC,” she said. She directed the SDMs to increase farmers’ access to machines for managing crop stubble and emphasised that all nodal officers should remain more vigilant to prevent such incidents. She also appealed to the farmers to contact on the helpline number 0183-2229125 for stubble management assistance.

ADC Jyoti Bala also visited various villages, including Jandiala, Dheere Kot, Wadala Johal, Amarjot and Bamha Gehri to extinguish farm fires and instructed officials to take strict action against those involved in stubble burning.

Meanwhile, the Amritsar rural police have booked 11 farmers in 12 cases registered yesterday. This has taken the number of cases to 28 in the past five days.

Among those booked are Narinder Singh, Satinder Manmohan Singh of Nizampura village, Bhola Singh and his son Gurpreet Singh of Chhann Ghoga village, Avtar Singh of Jabbowal village, Bau Singh of Guruwali, Mann Singh of Bullenangal village, Gurcharan Singh of Dashmesh Nagar, Pardee Singh of Bandala, Narinder Singh of Jandiala and Gurlal Singh of Bhangwa village.
