Amit Kumar is new Chandigarh MC chief
Chandigarh: Amit Kumar, a 2008-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, will be the new Commissioner of the MC. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved inter-cadre deputation of Amit from the Punjab cadre to the AGMUT cadre for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Abu Dhabi flight diverted
Mohali: The 3:30 am Abu Dhabi flight at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh, had to be diverted to Delhi on Sunday due to unidentified reasons. In a bid to touch down here, the flight circled over Chandigarh skies for sometime but decided against landing here, possibly due to strong winds. The flight was diverted to Delhi. Meanwhile, the Chandigarh-Abu Dhabi flight departed as usual from the airport.
Minor fire at Sec 32 hospital
Chandigarh: A minor fire incident occurred in the blood bank gallery of the GMCH, Sector 32, here on Sunday morning, leading to chaos. It was brought under control immediately due to the promptness of the security personnel present on the spot, thus averting a major incident. The fire broke out in a duct box. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
Phones stolen from house
Chandigarh: Two mobile phones were stolen from a house in the Mani Majra area. Complainant Ravi Kumar reported that the theft occurred on the intervening night of October 4 and 5. A case has been registered at the IT Park police station.
53 challaned in mohali
Mohali: During a special campaign against drunken driving, the Mohali Traffic Police challaned 53 offenders in the city. DSP (Traffic) Karnail Singh said, “The police deployed personnel at blockades and checked motorists till late Saturday. The urban areas of Mohali are in focus and offenders will be dealt with strictly.” For the past one month, the police have been holding campaigns against drunken driving and people who create nuisance in market areas.
Poll aspirants hold protest
Mohali: Alleging high-handedness in rejection of their nomination papers, panchayat poll aspirants at Chappar Chiri Khurd village blocked the Landran-Kharar road on Sunday. SAD leader Parvinder Singh Sohana said villagers were angry with the state government. They resorted to sloganeering against the government. Meanwhile, the scrutiny of nominations in Mohali district was completed at 11:45pm on Saturday.
