Ambala civic body conducts anti-encroachment drive

A team of the Municipal Council, Ambala Sadar, carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the Sadar area on Saturday morning.

During the anti-encroachment drive, a temple and a ‘majar’ were also demolished, meanwhile, a heavy police force was deployed to maintain the law and order situation.

A Dhaba owner had placed freezers, counters and boards outside the Dhaba, causing a hindrance in the movement of traffic. Municipal Council officials said multiple notices were served on the people, but they failed to remove the encroachments. Following this, the MC was forced to carry out the drive in the presence of heavy police deployment. People are requested to remove their encroachments to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

Was conducted peacefully

The demolition drive has been carried out in a peaceful manner. A temple and a ‘mazar’ were also removed during the drive. During the drive, a large number of people gathered at the spot, however, the entire exercise was completed in a peaceful manner.

A number of officials, including Chief Sanitary Inspector of the Municipal Council Vinod Bheniwal, Secretary Rajesh Kumar and Ambala Sadar Municipal Council Executive Officer Ravinder Singh were present during the anti-encroachment drive.

Singh said, “There was a temple on government land, which was demolished after giving notices. There was a long-pending dispute and a case was filed under the PP Act in the court, after getting eviction directions from the court, the action was taken. The idols were shifted safely. The temple was obstructing a drain project of the municipal council. With the removal of the encroachments, we will try to complete the project at the earliest.”

“Besides this, a ‘majar’ on the road and some encroachments by a Dhaba were also removed. The encroachments by the Dhaba owner was causing hindrance in the movement of traffic. The Municipal Council will identify all encroachments in the sadar area and the same will be removed as per the law”, he added.

Meanwhile, Ambala Cantonment police station SHO Satish Kumar said, “The demolition drive has been carried out in a peaceful manner. A temple and a ‘majar’ have also been removed during the drive.
