Amargarh MLA seeks funds for development from CM Mann

Amargarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra met Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, on Tuesday, to seek extra grants for development projects in his constituency.

The MLA said the development of infrastructure including roofs and buildings was a major demand of the residents of Amargarh and Ahmedgarh.

Gajjan Majra said the Chief Minister assured him to remind the authorities concerned for expediting development work and allocating more funds to his constituency.

He said, “Besides expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister, I requested him to grant extra funds for alleviating the sufferings of the residents.”

The MLA added that Mann assured him to make Amargarh a model of development for other towns and cities of the state.

Gajjan Majra stated that the residents of his area were facing severe difficulties as potholes had rendered many roads and streets impassable. Further, the situation worsened during the rainy season along with overflowing sewage further complicating the situation.

He also said that uncovered manholes posed a serious risk, especially for early morning walkers, who were often unaware of the dangers in dark.

An official from the municipal authority stated that development work was halted after the new AAP government took office, as it froze government grants.

Amargarh Municipal Council President Vikas Krishan Sharma said the pace of development projects had slowed due to the alleged involvement of the local legislator in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case, which had led to his year-long judicial custody.

“Although the routine functioning was not significantly impacted during Gajjan Majra’s absence from the constituency, the speed of development projects was definitely affected. We are relieved that our legislator has now met with the Chief Minister to request additional grants for the welfare of the residents in this area,” added Sharma.
