A 20-year-old man was found dead outside a cremation ground in the Jwala Nagar area of Shahdara on Thursday, the police reported on Friday. The police received a call in this regard from a CAT (Centralised Accident and Trauma Services) ambulance.

The police identified the man as Sunny, who had sustained injuries and was bleeding from his nose. He was declared dead on the spot. His body was later shifted to Subzi Mandi mortuary.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said initial investigations pointed to Rajesh, a resident of Jwala Nagar, as the primary suspect.

“Our investigation revealed that the incident began with Sunny asking Rajesh for a ‘beedi’, leading to an argument that quickly escalated into a physical confrontation,” Gautam added.

According to the police, both men sustained injuries during the altercation, which took a deadly turn when Rajesh allegedly picked up a large stone and struck Sunny, resulting in fatal blunt force trauma. “Rajesh delivered a severe blow that proved fatal, causing Sunny’s death on the spot,” a police official added.
