All five segments of Karnal district witness key changes in voter lists

Record addition of 16,081 voters, deletion of 14,716 voters

As Karnal district gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, scheduled for October 5, the voter lists of all five Assembly segments of the district witnessed significant changes. All five Assembly segments recorded the addition of 16,081 voters and deletion of 14,716 voters between the final publication of the voter list for the Lok Sabha on May 6, 2024 and final publication of voter list for the Vidhan Sabha elections on August 27.

With these updates, the total number of voters has reached 12,02,013 voters comprising 6,23,894 male voters, 5,75,015 female voters, 27 third-gender voters and 3,077 service voters. Besides, the district has also recorded an increase in the number of polling booths as through the randomisation process, 34 new polling booths have been added, resulting in a total of 1,181 booths across the district. The authorities claimed that an increase in the number of booths aimed at accommodating the increasing number of voters and ensured a smooth and efficient voting process.

“There are various factors which leads to the deletion of votes, which include death, migration, duplication and shifting of residences, while an increase in the number of voters are driven by multiple factors, which include efforts of booth-level officers (BLOs) in enrolling new voters, enthusiasm among first-time voters to participate in the democratic process and others,” said Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer.

He said these measures are part of a rigorous process to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the voter list. “The work of the Returning Officers (ROs) along with all team members, including those involved in the whole process on the ground ensure that eligible citizens have been added to the voter list,” said the District Election Officer.

As per the final publication of voter list, the Nilokheri Assembly segment has 2,32,935 voters, while 2,18,125 voters in the Indri Assembly segment, 2,65,168 voters in the Karnal Assembly segment, 2,40,937 voters in the Gharaunda Assembly and 2,41,771 voters in the Assandh Assembly segment.

In the Nilokheri Assembly segment, 2,177 voters have been added, and 3,147 voters have been removed, while in the Indri Assembly segment, 3,158 voters have been added, and 3,407 voters have been deleted.

As many as 4,423 voters have been included in the voter list, and 2,976 voters have been deleted at Karnal Assembly segment, while 3860 voters have been added, and 2,874 voters have been removed at Gharaunda segment, as many as 2,463 voters have been added, and 2,312 voters have been deleted at Assandh Assembly segment, the DC added.
