Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh said after receiving complaints of non-compliance of the Sikh rehat maryada as regards the colour of Nishan Sahib in gurdwaras, the five high priests took up the matter during a meeting on July 15.

A resolution was passed that the Nishan Sahib in all gurdwaras should either be of “Basanti” (xanthic) or “surmai” (greyish blue) colour only, as per the Sikh code of conduct.

“These directions were issued in the light of the ‘panth parvanit Sikh rehat maryada’ (Sikh code of conduct) finalised in 1936. The five high priests have just restored the traditional colour of Nishan Sahib to remove confusion. Yet, some misleading information is being spread as if it is a ‘new’ colour code, which is wrong. The Sikh community should not be misled,” he said.
