This was stated by Himachal Pradesh University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Rajendra Verma during a programme organised to celebrate the 55th Foundation Day of the university here today.

Addressing the gathering, he said all teaching, non-teaching staff and students would work together for the academic development of the university.

HPU alumni included individuals in leadership roles at the international level, he added.

“At the national level too, the university has provided many faces to the field of politics, administration, judiciary and education,” he said.

“The examination branch of the university will be strengthened and special incentives will be given for the maintenance of hostels. The library, laboratories and smart classrooms will be strengthened further,” Verma added.

He called upon the students and the faculty of the university to work together for qualitative educational development.

Remembering YS Parmar, the state’s first Chief Minister, Dean of Studies BK Shivram said the establishment of HPU could be attributed to his foresightedness.

He also recalled the contribution of founding Vice-Chancellor RK Singh.

On the occasion, a cultural programme was organised by the Music Department. During the programme, qawwali, Sirmauri song and group song performances were showcased.

Madan Jhalta of the department presented his famous Pahadi Naati song Mala Re.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor also released Contribution of Indian languages in the global perspective, possibilities and challenges, a book edited by ICDEOL Assistant Professor Usha Rani.
