To mobilise support for polls, BJP plans ‘Parivartan Yatra’
Gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections, the Delhi BJP on Saturday announced its citywide Parivartan Yatra as part of its campaign strategy. Sachdeva announced the initiative along with key appointments to various election committees.
A nine-member committee has been formed to oversee the Parivartan Yatra with former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay serving as its convener. The committee also includes senior party leaders Rajiv Babbar, Rekha Gupta, Raja Iqbal Singh, Jai Bhagwan Yadav, Satendra Chaudhary, Rajesh Goel, Kishan Sharma and Kaushal Mishra.
Additionally, Sachdeva revealed that BJP general secretary Vishnu Mittal has been appointed a member of the Delhi Assembly Election Coordination Committee.
Former Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, who recently joined the BJP after leaving the Aam Aadmi Party, has been given dual responsibilities. He has been inducted as a member of both the Election Coordination Committee and the Election Manifesto Committee.
With these strategic appointments and the upcoming Parivartan Yatra, the BJP is ramping up its efforts to challenge the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The party aims to engage with voters and mobilise support in its bid to return to power after three decades.
The BJP, which last won the Delhi Assembly polls in 1993, faces a formidable challenge from the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP. The ruling party swept the 2015 and 2020 elections with landslide victories, securing 67 and 62 seats, respectively.
Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav criticised the BJP’s attempt to counter the growing popularity of Congress’ Nyay Yatra by announcing a ‘Parivartan Yatra’ ahead of the Assembly elections.
“The tremendous success of the Nyay Yatra has shaken the BJP, leading its top leadership to instruct the Delhi BJP to launch their own ‘Parivartan Yatra’,” Yadav said.
“However, this move has put the Delhi BJP leaders in a difficult position. Just like Kejriwal, Sachdeva is unable to face the people and answer their inconvenient questions, as the BJP has been complicit in the deterioration of the city,” he added.
Yadav highlighted the BJP’s silence during key moments of Delhi’s decline. “While the people of Delhi suffered and the city deteriorated, BJP leaders remained silent. They turned a blind eye to corruption, incompetence and inaction of the Kejriwal Government,” he alleged.
The Congress leader also pointed to the BJP’s “inaction” during major crisis, such as the controversial liquor policy and the Covid-19 pandemic.
“While Congress leaders and workers took to the streets to protest against Kejriwal’s corrupt liquor policy, BJP leaders stayed silent. Similarly, when Delhiites struggled during the Covid-19 lockdown, it was Congress workers who provided relief and essential supplies to the people, while the BJP and AAP leaders stayed at home,” he added.
“The success of Nyay Yatra shows that the people of Delhi want Congress back in power. In contrast, the BJP’s yatra will be a flop because it is equally responsible for the destruction of Delhi alongside AAP,” he said.
