Agri varsity V-C inaugurates sports camp, recalls 3 Olympian alumni

The National Sports Organisation (NSO) camp, organised by the Directorate Students’ Welfare, kicked off at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today.
Inaugurating the camp, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, vice-chancellor, PAU, said that the university, modelled on the Land Grants Universities in the US and inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, has been catering to the education, research, extension and food needs of the country through the collective efforts of agricultural scientists as well as the farming community. “PAU has worked at personality enhancement among students through the promotion of co-curricular activities like sports and youth festivals,” he added, recalling that this was evident from the fact that the varsity had nourished three Olympians, among other record-breaking national and international sportspersons.
Dr Nirmal Singh Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare, while welcoming the dignitaries, coaches and participating students, called for the need to focus on developing rounded personalities by participating in academics and sports. He added that PAU had the best sporting facilities in the state and that the participants should make the most of their time at the camp by training with rigour .
