The second in the sequence of kisan melas planned by Punjab Agricultural University was held today at the Regional Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri.

The Mela was based on the theme “Kheti Naal Saahiak Dhanda, Parivar Sukhi Munafa Changa”. Dr SS Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University, was the chief guest of the mela. He suggested the farmers to go for high quality hybrid seeds, subsidiary occupations such as bee-keeping, jaggery production, flower cultivation etc.

In his welcome address to the farmers, Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, asked the farm men and women to attend the mela in big numbers and draw benefits from the research of the PAU scientists. He advised the farmers to become self-sufficient in terms of employment and create job opportunities for others on their agricultural land. He emphatically told them to be a part of the PAU training programmes organised from time to time and set up their own enterprises for maximum financial gains.

Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, said that the Regional Research Centre, Ballowal Saunkhri has made a notable progress since some years. The natural beauty and the clean environment of this place is a big attraction to everyone, he added.

Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner, SBS Nagar, who was the guest of honour, remarked that the farming community is undoubtedly benefited by the research initiatives of the agri-experts.
