Agri varsity gets project for betterment of SC community
The Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has got a project from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh for its implementation during the current fiscal 2024-25.
The major objectives of this project were socio-economic analysis of the existing production system of SC community, capacity building and technology dissemination through training on livestock and horticulture based enterprises, on farm livestock and horticulture based technologies demonstrations at farmers’ fields and impact assessment of technologies interventions on livelihood of SC farmers.
While explaining this project, Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, said that in this project, beneficiaries would be identified on a cluster basis. “Capacity building and understanding of the technologies would be enhanced through conducting short duration training programmes especially on horticulture and livestock farming,” he informed.
In this project, all the beneficiaries would be provided with dual purpose birds, demonstration on mineral mixture, establishment of kitchen garden and roof top cultivation, he added. Besides, these activities would help in enhancing the farmers’ income as well as ensuring the livelihood security of the selected SC community farmers and the farm women.
Dr Kulvir Kaur, Extension Scientist (Home Science), and Dr Madhu Shelly, Extension Scientist (Animal Science), will be coordinator and co-coordinator of this project respectively with the assistance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Samrala.
