After rain lashed the city on Wednesday and Thursday, the condition of roads has turned worse. The potholed roads filled with water added to commuters’ woes as many stretches in parts of the city were badly damaged due to the rainfall.

A resident of Upkar Nagar complained that the road in their locality was laid only three days ago and rain washed it away. “The authorities should plan the laying of roads ahead of the monsoon season to avoid such a situation. All efforts and money have gone down the drain,” he said.

Meanwhile, the road in front of Leisure Valley at Sarabha Nagar has badly damaged. “The entire road has broken after the rainfall and developed potholes. It has become difficult to commute on the stretch. A school is also located on the road and it should be recarpeted at the earliest,” said Vandana, who regularly commutes on the road.

The badly damaged roads, filled with rainwater, are an open invitation to accidents.

It is difficult to negotiate potholes filled with muddy rainwater. “My two-wheeler got stuck in such a pothole in Haibowal Kalan and as a result I had a fall. It becomes hard to drive in such circumstances. We pay taxes to the government regularly but sadly it has failed to provide good road infrastructure to its citizens,” said Rajeev, a resident of Haibowal Kalan.

Dinesh, who works at a food joint in the Civil Lines here, said potholes had been developed on roads and many stretches that were recarpeted in haste without removing old layers also got damaged after rain.

“The departments concerned must ensure good condition of roads in the city. Whenever any pothole appears, it must be repaired as early as possible, instead of waiting for the whole road to get damaged to carry out the repair work,” he said.
