Following his defeat in the Assembly elections from the Meham constituency in the district, former MLA Balraj Kundu has decided to withdraw the free bus facility provided to girl students of his Assembly segment.

A decision to this effect was taken at a workers’ meeting of the Haryana Jansewak Party (HJP) headed by Kundu on Wednesday.

“The free bus service is being withdrawn for a period of two years as my party workers have insisted that our buses will be deployed in some other constituency as of now. Now, Congress candidate Balram Dangi, who had promised to provide free-bus facility for the girl students and has won the election from the Meham constituency, should honour his commitment and take over the responsibility along with Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda,” said Kundu.

A fleet of nearly 20 buses was being run by Kundu for the girl students of the Meham constituency free of cost for several years.

However, he has stopped the free bus service after being defeated by the Congress candidate from the constituency, though he announced that the bus service would be resumed in the constituency after two years.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued here, Kundu said he would contest the next Lok Sabha election from Rohtak against the sitting Congress MP Deepender Hooda.

“The Congress leaders had lured the people of the constituency in the name of government jobs. Now we will see how they fulfil their promises and address the concerns of the residents,” said Kundu.

Former Haryana minister and prominent Congress leader of the Meham area Anand Singh Dangi stated that the move to stop the free-bus facility indicated that it was not a social initiative, but a self-service aimed at furthering the political interests of former MLA Balraj Kundu. “He has proved it himself by withdrawing the facility soon after losing the Assembly elections from the Meham constituency,” said Dangi, whose son Balram has been elected MLA from Meham this time. He also rubbished Kundu’s announcement of contesting the next Lok Sabha election from Rohtak, remarking that he would not contest any election.
