With Gurjapneet Singh being picked by the Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2025, his parents have high hopes that the 26-year-old left-arm fast bowler will soon be knocking at the doors of the Indian cricket team with his IPL performance.

Born in Ludhiana and brought up in Ambala before he relocated to Tamil Nadu to pursue his passion for cricket, Gurjapneet is currently playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Tamil Nadu. Earlier, he caught everybody's attention when Gurjapneet in his debut match in Ranji Trophy took six wickets for Tamil Nadu against Saurashtra. In the Ranji session, he took 13 wickets in four matches.

A profession photographer, Gurjapneet’s father Jagjit Singh, said, “We are very happy because Gurjapneet has worked hard from a very young age. Shifting from Ambala to Tamil Nadu in 2017, where everything is different from food, culture, language and climate, he has made a lot sacrifices."

Shifting to Tamil Nadu paid off

Born in Ludhiana and brought up in Ambala before he relocated to Tamil Nadu to pursue his passion for cricket, Gurjapneet is currently playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Tamil Nadu. Earlier, he caught everybody's attention when Gurjapneet in his debut match in Ranji Trophy for Tamil Nadu against Saurashtra took six wickets. In the Ranji session, he took 13 wickets in four matches.

“He is very passionate about the game. I just want to see him playing for the Indian team in the blue jersey and winning matches for the country as a world class bowler," said Gurjapneet’s mother Premjeet Kaur.

He has been playing domestic cricket and has also showcased his talent in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and various other tournaments.

While the young bowler dedicated himself to cricket, his father wanted him to focus on his studies. “Like any other father, I also wanted him to focus on studies, but after seeing his determination, I allowed him to pick cricket as a career. However, I asked him to continue education alongside cricket."

"He completed his graduation and now he is fulfilling his dream. He has achieved a milestone by getting picked in the IPL and that too for CSK, and we want him to perform well and secure a place in the Indian team soon,” he said.

About the decision of relocating him to Tamil Nadu, Jagjit said, “No one wants to send his child away to a far off place at a very tender age. Absence of suitable cricket facilities and grounds here forced us to allow him to shift to Tamil Nadu. He has done a lot of adjustments. I request Haryana government to pay some attention to cricket facilities and develop some good grounds in the region for budding players.”

Meanwhile, Gurjapneet said, “I am very excited as I will be playing alongside some big players for the CSK. MS Dhoni and CSK have a different fan base and I will be playing for the same team now. This is something big."

"I have been practicing hard and giving performances in domestic tournaments and I will continue to give my best in the upcoming tournaments too. I am focusing on my bowling and improving continuously. Tamil Nadu has given me the opportunity to showcase my talent and I will continue to play for Tamil Nadu in the future as well,” he said.

Setting a target for the ‘Purple Cap’ in the next IPL season, the 6’3’’ tall Gurjapneet loves to eat aloo paranthas. "Recently he came for a few hours only after getting a break between matches and he only asked for aloo Paranthas,” said Gurjapneet’s mother.
