Advances in optics, photonics discussed
About 400 experts from research and development institutes, academia and the industry came together to discuss developments and prospects in the field of optics at the 47th International Conference on Advances in Optics and Photonics Instrumentation here today.
Stating that that photonics is a revolutionary game-changer for the millennium, KV Sriram, Director of Indian Space Research Organisation’s Bengaluru-based Laboratory for Electro-Optics System, said in his keynote address that this field had made significant advancements in material sciences and nano-engineering technology and was a powerful tool to overcome the limitations of electronic systems.
He said more path-breaking advancements such as enhanced satellite communication systems, development of new space-based telescopes and improved imaging capabilities of spacecraft with artificial intelligence incorporated systems are now within reach.
Prof W Osten from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, delved on optical metrology and sensing in time of digital transition and discussed the emerging technologies as well as the challenges being faced in this field.
The three-day event is being organised by the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), Chandigarh, in association with the Optical Society of India, in which about 70 invited talks are being delivered in various technical sessions.
Research students from various institutions also attended the event. Thesis presentations and poster making on associated themes were also organised along with an exhibition of technologies and products developed indigenously.
