Adopt positive attitude towards disabled: Speaker
Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan today said people needed to adopt a positive attitude toward the disabled.
Addressing a state-level programme in Panchkula on the International Day of Disabled, organised by Haryana Deaf and Dumb Welfare Society, the Speaker said, “We need to pay special attention to their education. This is because illiteracy causes double loss for them.”
“We need to provide the disabled people with special opportunities in education, employment and health services. They should be treated with respect in public places and transport services. Awareness campaigns should be run to develop a positive attitude towards disability in society,” he added.
The Speaker mentioned efforts being made by the State and Central Governments for the disabled and added that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act brought by the Central Government in 2016 has proved effective in empowering disabled persons, increasing respect and confidence at the workplace.
