Admn committed to procuring every grain of farmers, says DC
Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, while reviewing the procurement of paddy at the Phagwara grain market, on Tuesday said that the district administration is committed to procuring each and every grain produced by farmers.
Accompanied by Kapurthala SSP Vatsala Gupta, Food and Civil Supply, and officials of the Mandi Board and various procurement agencies, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with farmers, arhtiyas and labourers at the grain market.
He said out of the 229,892 MT of paddy arrived in 78 mandis of the district, 227,420 MT of paddy has been procured, which becomes 99 per cent of the arrived crop.
It may be mentioned here that the target of procurement has been fixed at 760,983 MT in the district during the current season.
The Deputy Commissioner has asked the officials to pay special attention to lifting of procured paddy within the stipulated time of 72 hours. Now, 10,000 MT of paddy is being lifted daily. As for payment to farmers against the procured paddy, the Deputy Commissioner said payment to farmers is ensured within 48 hours, under which Rs 455.77 crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers.
He urged the farmers to bring dry paddy to the mandis so that they do not have to face any kind of problem in procurement.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal, SDM Jashanjit Singh, District Food and Supply Officer Sanyogata, District Mandi Officer Arvinder Singh and officials of procurement agencies were present on the occasion.
