The Department of Higher Education has given a nod to in-person counselling for admission to five-year integrated courses at several government, aided and un-aided law colleges in the state on the recommendations of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar.

The committee constituted to conduct centralised online counselling had written to the Education Secretary, Higher Education and Directorate Higher Education, that 1,408 seats out of 3,500 seats remained vacant at 36 law colleges affiliated with four state-run universities even after three rounds of counselling.

The GNDU had conducted last round of online counselling on August 16 and the delay in approval to fill vacant seats had kept the students’ fate hanging in balance.

The university authorities today received a notification stating that the remaining seats at all colleges could now be filled through in-person counselling.

Dr Amit Kauts, coordinator, Online Counselling, GNDU, said, “The earlier notification stated that the seats in all law colleges were to be filled through centralised counselling. Even after three rounds of online counselling, a large number of seats remained vacant. Thus, we wrote to the Department of Higher Education in this regard. We will upload the schedule for in-person counselling by September 12.”

He said they would also be releasing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for colleges to conduct in-person counselling. “Interested candidates who have already registered themselves for law admission will be given preference over candidates who have not registered for taking the entrance exam,” he said.
