Amritsar: Additional SHO arrested for 'taking' Rs 10 lakh from drug peddler

The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested an additional SHO for allegedly taking Rs 10 lakh in bribe from a drug peddler as “protection money”.
The accused, identified as Sub-inspector Narinder Singh, was posted at the Lopoke police station here. He was arrested yesterday evening and the bribe money was seized from him.
He has been booked under Section 59 of the NDPS Act and Sections 7 and 13 (1) (A) (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
His name cropped up during the interrogation of Guravtar Singh, who was nabbed by the STF for cross-border smuggling a couple of days ago. He and his accomplice Avtar Singh were arrested with 500 gm heroin each.
Amritsar (Rural) SSP Swapan Sharma said a departmental investigation had been initiated against SI Narinder Singh and he had been suspended.
Assistant Inspector General, STF, Rashpal Singh said: “During his interrogation, Guravtar disclosed that the SI had taken bribe impersonating an STF official. The SI asked him that he would settle the matter and the task force would not ‘bother’ him.” The SI was was sent to three days’ police remand.
