Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Kotli joins protest against CNG plants

Congress MLA from Adampur Sukhwinder Kotli today joined a protest staged by residents and farmers of Bhogpur against the government’s plan to set up CNG plants at Bhogpur in Jalandhar.

About 150 residents, including farmers, participated in the protest, saying that they would not allow pollution in the area, caused by the plants.

Kotli said, “We have got reports that say that 70 tonnes of wet waste from Jalandhar city will be accumulated in Bhogpur daily which will be processed in the plant for production of the CNG. We will not allow such project which will pollute our water, air and soil”.

The protest continued for about an hour in front of the DC office. As they got to know that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was still in the city and the administration was busy with him at his camp office, they moved to his place. The agitators were stopped and they chose to sit on a dharna.

Balwinder Singh Malli Nangal, a farmer leader, said two CNG plants were coming up in Bhogpur – one at the sugar mill site and the other at Kandhar Guru village. “The construction of the plant in the mill is almost 35 per cent done and the work is going on in full swing. We want to urge the administration to stop it with immediate effect,” he said.

After almost four hours of the protest, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal and ADC (Urban Development) Jasvir Singh met and gave them assurance that the construction work would be stopped immediately.
