Actor Jaideep Singh believes good looks still matter in the industry
Jaideep Singh, currently captivating audiences as Balbir Singh Bajwa in Iss Ishq Ka Rabb Rakha on Star Plus, has witnessed firsthand the intricate dynamics of the entertainment industry. While he acknowledges that talent is increasingly valued, he also highlights the lingering emphasis on good looks as a critical factor in an actor’s success. “Despite the proven fact that talent has become more important over time, the sad reality is that good looks still receive more consideration,” Jaideep reflects. His belief that talent should be prioritised over appearance resonates with many in the industry who strive to be recognised for their craft rather than their physical attributes. “Personally, I feel that talent should come first, with looks coming second. As for luck, you can’t rely on it all the time, but your talent will definitely take you further,” he emphasises.
In an industry notorious for its fierce competition, Jaideep remains undeterred. “It’s true that fierce competition is always going to be there. One has to follow the principle of ‘survival of the fittest’ and keep moving forward,” he advises aspiring actors. His pragmatic approach underscores the importance of resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
While favouritism is an undeniable aspect of the industry, Jaideep prefers not to dwell upon it. “I focus on my work and maintain a professional attitude. If it bothers me or affects my work, I address it politely and then move on,” he explains. This mindset allows him to navigate the challenges of the industry without becoming disheartened. Reflecting on his own experiences, Jaideep shares an incident that taught him the value of persistence. “I can’t mention specific names, but there was an instance where I was the first choice, yet they went with another actor. Later, they realised he couldn’t deliver, and they called me back. I decided to return because I really wanted to do the project and knew that some people had fought for me to be there,” he concludes, emphasising the importance of integrity and collaboration in his career.
