Panjab University Campus Students’ Council poll: ABVP releases manifesto, women issues in focus
Chandigarh, August 26
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has released its manifesto for the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) elections to be held on September 5.
In the manifesto, which is dedicated to addressing issues faced by women, the party promises to reserve at least one seat for women candidates. It mentions solutions for issues revolving around their security, empowerment, health and hygiene.
To discourage eve-teasing around hostels, the establishment of pink police booths near every girls hostel, along with the installation of additional CCTV cameras, has been proposed.
As per the manifesto, the ABVP would create a students’ club, ‘SAHASI’, that shall serve as a dedicated platform for voicing challenges and concerns faced by female students. In addition to this, it proposes creation of a 24x7 pharmacy and setting up of vending machines that shall dispense sanitary napkins at various places on the university campus.
During the release of the manifesto, student leaders Dhruvika Sherawat and Arpita Malik urged the student community to support their vision of having a more inclusive campus.
