ABVP calls for urgent action over delay in SC/ST reimbursements
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Punjab has expressed serious concern regarding the delay in the release of SC/ST scholarship funds (Rs 250 crore) by the state government and the Centre (Rs 930 crore). Thousands of students are facing financial uncertainty due to pending reimbursements, prompting us to demand immediate action to resolve the crisis, the ABVP said.
According to the latest data, over Rs 1,430 crore in scholarship funds designated for SC/ST students in the state remains unreleased. This has placed many students at risk of dropping out due to financial constraints, with arrears dating back several years impacting the educational prospects of those from vulnerable communities.
ABVP Punjab State Secretary Manmeet Sohal emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating, “The delay in releasing SC/ST scholarship funds is injustice to students who rely on these funds for their education. The government must ensure these scholarships, essential for SC/ST students’ access to higher education, are disbursed without further delay. ABVP Punjab will continue to support these students and advocate for their rights.”
The disbursement delays have led to widespread discontent among SC/ST students, many of whom struggle to pay tuition fee or meet basic living expenses. In light of this situation, ABVP Punjab is calling on both the state government and the Centre to take immediate action to release the pending funds.
ABVP Punjab urges the state administration to fulfil its responsibilities toward SC/ST students by fast-tracking the reimbursement process, ensuring scholarships reached eligible students without bureaucratic obstacles.
