Abohar farmers get tips on proper disposal of paddy straw
Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and Senior Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Brar today visited villages around Abohar, including Katehra, Nihal Khera, Burj Muhar and Killianwali, and encouraged farmers to dispose paddy stubble in the ways suggested by the Agriculture Department.
The DC told the farmers that the Punjab government had created an advanced farmer mobile app. By registering on the app, a farmer can get information about the machines available near him and book these as per his requirement.
She said as data pertaining to many farmers was already registered on the food grain procurement portal, they can directly log in to the app with their mobile number or Aadhaar card. “If a farmer does not have a login, he can first go to the grain purchase portal and complete the registration, the link of which will be found on the app itself,” the DC added.
She said instead of burning stubble, farmers should plough it in the field and sow the next crop as it increased the fertility of the land.
She said by burning the stubble the nutrients of the land get destroyed and it also caused air pollution.
SSP Brar advised the farmers that instead of burning the stubble, they should dispose it properly so that the fertility of the land can be maintained.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Subhash Chander, Abohar SDM Krishan Pal Rajput, Chief Agriculture Officer Sandeep Rinwa, Block Agriculture Officer Parvinder Singh Dhanju, besides nodal and cluster officers were also present at the meeting.
