DAV College of Education, Abohar, won the overall trophy as curtains were drawn on the 65th Punjab University Youth and Heritage Festival Zone-B at Maharishi Dayanand College of Education here on Saturday.

The event saw an impressive participation of hundreds of students from 31 colleges of Fazilka, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Moga districts.

Dev Samaj College of Education for Women, Ferozepur, emerged the first runner-up and Dashmesh Girls College of Education, Badal, was the second runner-up. The winning teams and individuals were awarded prizes by host college director Dr RP Asija and Principal Dr Sunita Arya.

The final day saw a lively and energetic Malwai giddha, Luddi and Sammi folk dances with the audience tapping their feet and clapping.

Paramjit Kaur, Shweta Paruthi and Amanat Kaur were among the students who were honoured for their individual performance in dances.

Organising secretary Dr Vishal Gupta said folk dances reflected the ideals, thinking process, customs, religion and special features of the society in a natural way.
