AAP tries to disrupt opposition parties’ hunger strike
The Aam Aadmi Party today tried to disrupt the hunger strike started by the opposition parties in front of the building of the Doraha Community Health Centre protesting against the state government has maintained silence over the inauguration of the building even after two years of its construction.
The situation became tense when Payal MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura along with block president Rana Kooner, council president Sudarshan Kumar Pappu, market committee Chairman Buta Singh and other AAP leaders tried to make space for themselves at the dharna site and shouted slogans against the opposition parties while the latter were already shouting slogans against the ruling party for its allegedly non-functional approach. The battle of words lasted for some time and the police had to intervene to ask the leaders of different parties to keep their calm and protest peacefully.
Members of the BJP have condemned this allegedly ‘highly authoritative attitude’ of the AAP government and termed it as gundaraj where the general public is being forcibly silenced to speak against the failures of the existing government in Punjab.
“No party MLA or for that matter any other person can stop us from demanding what is right. We shall continue with our hunger strike and no power on earth can stop us from doing so. We are demanding medical facilities for the general public which has been suffering for want of a hospital in Doraha for years,” the protestors added.
Pawan Kumar Kaushal of the Marxist Communist Party of India (United) strongly condemned the ‘dictatorial attitude’ of Giaspura along with his party leaders and workers. “AAP party volunteers attempted to sabotage this pro-people protest in the interest of making the government hospital operational. This is a highly condemnable act on the part of the MLA and this speaks of his arrogant attitude and forcibly suppressing the voice of the residents,” he added.
Giaspura said, “The building was left incomplete by the former government due to the non-payment of the contractors. He alleged that dirty politics was being played by the earlier government to give name the hospital after its leader. We made personal efforts to get the payment of the contractors cleared and completed the building.”
The MLA added, “The BJP government has intentionally held back a total of 8,100 crore rupees of the state and despite meetings, pleas and requests, the government at the Centre is in no mood to clear the amount. The BJP workers who are protesting in front of the CHC better shift their dharna spot to the house of JP Nadda and ask for the aid to be released at the earliest so that the hospital is made functional. Not only this, 17 such buildings are waiting for operations to begin just due to funds not being released.”
SHO Doraha Varinder Singh Rao when contacted said the situation was under control and no party tried to take law in its hands.
