AAP seeks resignation of L-G over ‘deteriorating’ law & order
The AAP on Monday demanded the resignation of Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena, accusing him of failing to maintain law and order in the Capital.
Senior AAP leader and chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar criticised the L-G citing several recent incidents of violent crime.
“The L-G, who is directly responsible for maintaining law and order in Delhi, has failed as crimes are being committed with impunity,” Kakkar said.
She highlighted a recent incident that occurred on September 6, where a group of armed men fired a dozen rounds in a club in Seemapuri in East Delhi.
Kakkar added, “You must remember that on July 15, criminals entered the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital and shot a patient while he was undergoing treatment. You must also remember that on June 26 last year, in broad daylight, four bike-borne youths surrounded a car and looted it at the Pragati Maidan Tunnel. In another incident, a senior citizen and doctor died during an attempted robbery in Jangpura and Rs 24-25 crore was looted from a jewellery shop in the same area.”
She also cited National Crime Records Bureau data, saying, “The data says 1,832 crimes take place per lakh population in Delhi, but only 30 per cent of the cases have a chargesheet. Where is the accountability?” she questioned.
Kakkar also criticised the BJP, linking the rise in crime in Delhi to the party’s governance style.
