AAP MLAs write to L-G on ‘worsening’ law & order situation, seek immediate meeting

In light of the escalating gang-related violence and extortion cases in the Capital, AAP MLAs on Monday requested an urgent meeting with Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena.

The MLAs, in a letter addressed to the L-G, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, stating that repeated incidents of open shootings and extortion attempts have instilled fear within Delhi’s business community.

The letter, signed by several AAP legislators, highlighted a surge in violent incidents, pointing specifically to three instances of businesses being fired upon, all occurring on the same day.

“These incidents of open shootings and extortion attempts not only tarnish Delhi’s reputation but also that of the entire country, given that it is the national capital,” the letter stated.

The AAP MLAs emphasised that business owners, traders and their families are living in constant fear due to the aggressive tactics used by criminal gangs. This issue had been raised by several legislators during a recent special session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.

The lawmakers urged the L-G to take immediate action, stating, “Today, extortion calls or demands for protection money from gangsters have become a regular feature in the lives of businessmen. This will ultimately force them to shut down their businesses in Delhi.”

Since the Delhi Police operates under the direct control of the Central Government and the L-G, the AAP MLAs requested a meeting to discuss potential solutions for restoring peace and security in the city and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
