AAP last list out, Kejriwal to contest from New Delhi seat
Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi will continue to contest from New Delhi and Kalkaji Assembly constituency, respectively, as AAP released its fourth and final list of candidates for 38 remaining seats on Sunday.
The party had, in its earlier three lists, declared the names of 32 candidates out of 70 Assembly constituencies.
The AAP national convener will fight from the New Delhi Assembly constituency for the fourth time. AAP has been in power in the national capital since 2013 when it formed the government for 49 days. In 2015, it won 67 seats and in 2020, it won 62 seats.
On announcing the final list, Kejriwal — in a post on X — expressed “full confidence”. “The party is contesting elections with full confidence and full preparation.”
“The BJP is missing. It has no CM face, no team, no planning and no vision for Delhi. They have only one slogan, only one policy and only one mission — Remove Kejriwal. Ask them what they did for five years, they answer — Abused Kejriwal,” he wrote.
He further wrote that AAP has a vision, a plan for the development of the people of Delhi and a good team of educated people to implement it. “There is a long list of works done in the past 10 years. Delhiites will vote for workers, not abusers,” the former Delhi CM added.
The Assembly elections are scheduled for February 2025. The Election Commission is yet to announce the date for the poll.
From the current Delhi Cabinet, Imran Hussain, Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Mukesh Ahlawat and Raguvinder Shokeen have also been fielded from their respective Assembly seats – Ballimaran, Babarpur, Greater Kailash, Sultanpur Majra and Nangloi Jat, respectively.
Amanatullah Khan and Satyendra Jain, who had been arrested for money laundering and corruption charges and later granted bail, will contest from Okhla and Shakur Basti.
From Malviya Nagar, Somnath Bharti has been fielded for the fourth time. The party has also given ticket to Naresh Balyan’s wife Pooja Balyan from Uttam Nagar seat since the former had been arrested by the Delhi Police over an alleged extortion case, links with gangster Kapil Sangwan and also under Maharashtra Control of Organised Criminal Act (MCOCA). He is currently under judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the party has given ticket to Naresh Yadav who was recently sentenced by a Punjab court in the Quran desecration case.
