The BJP on Friday attacked the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab saying it had brought the state on the verge of financial bankruptcy.

Party national general secretary Tarun Chugh in a statement strongly condemned the AAP government's decision to increase VAT on petrol and diesel in Punjab and put an extra burden of around Rs 3,000 crore on the people.

“The AAP government’s take on subsidies stand astarkly exposed. A hike in prices of petrol and diesel will further cripple the economy as it will have a cascading effect on other fields like transport. The additional Rs 3,000 crore burden is a major setback for the state's economy," said Chugh.

The BJP leader said instead of focusing on developmental projects and providing relief to the common people, the state government was resorting to measures that are bound to further strain the state's finances. Chugh further stated that the withdrawal of the power subsidy by the Punjab Government would drive industrial opportunities to other states due to increased power costs.
