90 test positive for Covid; one succumbs

Ludhiana, November 30

Ninety persons tested positive for Covid, while one person lost his life to the virus in the district today.

The deceased belonged to Jagraon and was a 32-year-old male. Today, eight patients were on ventilator support, out of whom two belonged to Ludhiana and six were from other districts.

Out of the 90 persons who tested positive today, 34 were referred from OPDs, 26 from flu corners, eight were contacts of positive persons, six health care workers, while the tracing of 13 persons was in process.

Now, positive patients in the district are 22,824 and 905 persons have lost their lives in the district so far.

Today 127 persons were sent for home quarantine and now active home quarantined are 2,064.

Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said whenever the district administration and Health Department Ludhiana find out any positive or suspected coronavirus person, their samples are immediately sent for testing. The reports of 3,090 persons are awaited and samples had been sent for testing.

He appealed to the residents to follow all directions of the Punjab Government and try to stay indoors and move outdoors for essential works only.

Night curbs in district

In view of the rising Covid cases, District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the movement of individuals for all non-essential activities would remain prohibited between 10 pm and 5 am in Ludhiana district from December 1. Besides, the penalty for not wearing masks and spitting in public places had been enhanced from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for each violation.

However, essential activities, movement of persons and goods on national and state highways and unloading of cargo and travel of persons to their destinations after disembarking from buses, trains and aeroplanes would be permitted.

Restaurants, marriage palaces, hotels and other hospitality units within Ludhiana district would be shut by 9.30 pm. Social distancing had to be maintained. Accordingly, if any permitted activity led to crowding and congestion, necessary steps in terms of staggering, rotation etc. had to be taken and ensured that the principles of social distancing were not compromised, the DC said.

“The wearing of masks, not spitting and frequent use of hand-wash/sanitisers by all persons in public places, including workplaces etc, and also regular sanitising of all public/work places by the authorities concerned would be mandatory and must be strictly observed and enforced,” he said.
