8 injured in Rohtak as explosive material kept in auto-rickshaw catches fire

Eight people travelling in an auto-rickshaw, including the devotees going to attend Chhath Puja, were injured in a mishap at Rohtak on Thursday evening.

The mishap took place as a packet of an explosive material placed in the auto-rickshaw exploded. The explosive material is used in fireworks.

"A skyshot cracker somehow entered the auto-rickshaw and a spark from it fell on the packet containing the explosive, due to which it exploded," said Naval Kishore, who sustained minor injuries.

The injured, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were rushed to the local PGIMS.

PGIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Pushpa Dahiya said the eight people having burns were undergoing treatment at the Trauma Centre.

"Three of the injured have suffered nearly 50 per cent burns, while the others have 10-15 per cent burns," she said, adding that

super-specialist doctors had been asked to take care of the patients.

The injured have been identified as Roshan (18), Ashish (17), Deepak (12), Ravi (17), Nibha (14), Sachin (23), Kartik (5) and Sita

Devi (30).

A police team and forensic experts reached the spot and started the investigation.
