Hoshiarpur, July 6

The district police have booked eight persons, in different cases, on the charge of cheating of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad.

According to information received, Kuljit Singh, a resident of Darapur Tanda, told the Bullowal police that Baljit Singh, a resident of Karnal, Haryana, Rajesh Kumar and his wife Poonam, residents of Shanti Nagar, Hoshiarpur, cheated him of Rs 10.50 lakh in the name of sending him to Australia. Similarly, Avtar Singh, a resident of Model Town, Mukerian, told Mukerian police that Sandeep Rajput, a resident of Fatehabad, Haryana, and Bittu and Mandeep Singh, residents of Mukerian, allegedly cheated him of Rs 60 lakh on the pretext of sending him to America.

Similarly, Gurjeet Singh, a resident of Argowal, told the Dasuya police that Gurwinder Singh Bajwa, a resident of Galowal, and Karandeep Saini, a resident of Manhota, had struck a deal for Rs 19 lakh to send him to England. The accused first took Rs 25,000 from him as advance and then said that they took Rs 5 lakh more and said the remaining amount would have to be paid after reaching England.

The complainant said the accused called him to Mumbai and allegedly took two thousand pounds from him.

After this, the accused sent him to Africa. On reaching there, the accused allegedly took Rs 1.6 lakh from his family and sent him to Belgium. He was arrested there and kept in a detention centre for five months and then deported to India. After registering all the cases, the police have started the next action.
