7 phones seized from Central Jail

During a surprise checking, the Central Jail authorities seized seven mobile phones inside the premises here on Wednesday evening. The jail authorities lodged a complaint with the police, which have registered a case against five jail inmates in this regard.
Balwinder Singh Galeria, Assistant Superintendent, Amritsar Central Jail, said during checking in room No.2 of barrack No.1, jail staff found a mobile phone from the possession of Yaqub Ali, a resident of Sheikh Fateh village in Tarn Taran while another mobile phone was seized from Sharif Mohammad of Dhiyanpur village under Khalchian police station here. Jail staff also confiscated a mobile phone from another jail inmate Junait Ali of Dera Gujjran in Gurdaspur.
Similarly, during a checking in room No.7 of barrack No.3, the jail authorities seized a mobile phone from Lovepreet Singh of Pandori Waraich village while another mobile phone was seized from Manjit Singh of Dasuwal village in Tarn Taran.
Besides, jail staff recovered two unclaimed mobile phones from the bathroom of the same barrack.
The police said a case under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisons Act was registered against them. They said investigation was under progress to ascertain how they managed to sneak in the mobile phones even after high security. He said they would be brought on production warrant for interrogation.
