A Lok Adalat was conducted at the District Jail in Sunaria village, Rohtak district, presided over by Dr Tarannum Khan, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Rohtak.

During the session, nine criminal cases were presented, with seven of them being settled immediately. The Chief Judicial Magistrate ordered the immediate release of prisoners connected to these cases, emphasising their rights to legal aid under Section 12(G) of the Legal Services Authority Act.

Dr Khan highlighted that, according to Article 22 of the Constitution, it is the court’s responsibility to inquire whether an accused needs legal assistance and to provide a government-funded lawyer if necessary. She advised prisoners to comply with jail regulations and maintain good behaviour, noting that their conduct could lead to benefits such as parole and other facilities from jail administration.
