After witnessing a spike in farm fires for four days, there has been a decline in paddy residue burning cases with 68 incidents reported on Monday.

The state had witnessed 123 farm fires on October 10, 143 on October 11, 177 on October 12 and 162 on October 13.

The margin between the farm fire this year and the previous year which had reached 70 per cent during the starting of October has reduced to 30 per cent.

As per the data shared by Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), 940 farm fire events have been reported so far, whereas 1,319 incidents of stubble burning were reported during the corresponding period last year.

Amritsar with (18) incidents recorded the highest number of farm fires, followed by Tarn Taran (14), Patiala (13) and Sangrur (7).

Out of the total 940 cases, Amritsar topped the tally with the 339 incidents, followed by Tarn Taran (184).
